In this temperature range, FeO is clearly non-magnetic, but Fe \(_3\) O \(_4\) could exhibit ferrimagnetic behavior with a net magnetic moment owing to its high Curie temperature. Thus, it is conceivable that magnetic separation between Fe \(_3\) O \(_4\) and FeO is at least theoretically feasible.
